2012 Year in Review
This year had been filled with TONS of firsts! I adopted a cat, got married, and started a business. (I've adopted cats before, but this one was Rich and mines first adoption together.) This past year has been filled with blessing after blessing. I am excited to share this journey with you all. Starting Oh, Snap! Photography has been the scariest, most challenging, most rewarding thing I've done. I would not have been able to do it without the grace of God, and my husbands constant prodding to grow and be a better photographer. As I look back on the past 4 months of business I wanted to share a couple of my favorite photos from this year and why they made the list. As you might guess, each photo represents a first within the business.
The photo below is a montage of Dennis and his family. Dennis was my first customer. I was scared and nervous beyond belief. When he first called me I was so stunned that someone had called Oh, Snap! Photography to take their photos. That was probably the least organized phone call I've had to date. But I am thankful that I got to photograph such a friendly, welcoming family for my first session.
This next photo is just radiant. I think I'm still shocked that I took this one. The color and angle are amazing. Saba called and wanted to surprise his girlfriend with a maternity shoot where he was planning to propose. This was my first maternity/engagement/most creative shoot.
Genesis, Catherine, and Isaiah were a blast to work with. It was my first Cake Smash session. I learned a very valuable lesson this day. When working with young kids, always ALWAYS bring bright colorful toys to attract and keep their attention. This photo is also the first one I received in the mail on a Christmas Card! It was pretty surreal seeing my photos on someones Christmas Card. Definitely a keeper. Catherine, just had Isabelle and this week I will be trying my hand in newborn photography.
Kelly and Matt were such fun to photograph. I am still madly in love with that turquoise wall. It literally just popped out at us as we were walking to another photo site. I'm glad we stopped. This is my first photo shoot in another city. I learned that when taking photos in the city you need to start earlier than usual to accommodate the taller buildings blocking light.
About 20% of my shoots have been for military families. This shoot with Tiffany and her family was my first shoot on a military base. It was also the most moving. It was easy to get swept away with the anticipation this family had for seeing their dad who had been at sea for 9 months. It gave me a greater appreciation for those who are serving, have served, or have a family member serving in the Armed Forces.
Candy was my first referral. She heard about me when she saw the cake smash session I did for Isaiah. Her family was so great to work with.
Jill was a couple firsts. She was my first out of town client. Her family was on vacation from Arkansas and she wanted to do her senior photos in St. Augustine. She was also the first person to comment on my faith. She mentioned that she admired that I was so open and that she too shared my faith. It was great getting to know her and her family.
This next session just might be my all time favorite session. Svea and her family were so great to work with. In my post about their session, I mentioned that Brandon and Caden really made me work for their smiles. I'm so glad they did. This is the first session that helped me decide to make one of my specializations family photography. The first photo is what I was originally getting from the boys. It is a good photo, just not a great one. I loved joking around with them and getting them to actually laugh for me. I loved every minute of it.
I hope you all enjoyed the Year In Review! I can't wait to see what 2013 holds for Oh, Snap! Photography. Stay tuned, I have a massive project that I already have in the works for the new year! Can't wait to share it with you all!
