Charity Churchmouse Goes to California | St. Augustine Family Photographer

How did you all like the Transcontinental Adventure photos? Rich and I had the time of our lives and we will not soon forget our 3 day trek across the country. Our ultimate goal was the Los Angeles area.

Now, I grew up in the 90s, so a lot of my memories revolve around the Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, Pogs, slap wrist bands, and of course Lisa Frank. But one character rose above the rest and created an undying passion for all things California. Does anyone else remember Charity Churchmouse? From the Kidspraise movies with Psalty the Singing Psalm Book? Anyways, I was quite obsessed with Charity Churchmouse. I had a pink dress that I used to wear when I was watching the movie. I wanted to be just like her. My cousin, Crystal, can attest that she had to watch that movie with me ALL THE TIME! All Charity talked about was California. She was a cute little mouse that wore a glittery, pink, poodle skirt, and she wanted to be a Gospel singer in California. That is Charity's life mission until she learns to be a servant of others and decides to stay with the Churchmouse choir and help them out. Despite Charity not ending up in California, I'm pretty sure this engrained on my brain an obsession for California.

Fast forward about 15 years and I'm still obsessed with California. So when we found out our flight was cancelled and we couldn't get out there for another 5+ days, I was devastated. So, as you know Rich and I drove 3 days across the country to get there. Hence the title, "Charity Churchmouse Goes to California".

While we were there, we stayed with Rich's parents. They rented a house in San Clemente for Dayna's wedding. (Dayna is Rich's sister) We had a blast while we were there. One of the days, Rich had a business meeting in Long Beach. Naturally I went with him and did some exploring of my own. I found this little path behind a housing development and it was pretty scenic.

Everything is so hilly in California. It took some getting used to for this Florida girl. The next day Rich and I went on a walk from the house we were staying in. We wandered down to the beach and ended up finally touching the Pacific Coast. The last time we were in California, we were at the beach, but didn't touch the water. This time we were sure to do so. I know this will sound odd, but it was weird seeing the Pacific. It felt backwards from the East Coast. In my opinion, the West Coast is prettier, but I think it's a "grass is greener" situation.

I was in succulent heaven! California has bigger and better succulents! Honestly, they grow to be the size of bushes there! It was kind of awesome. In case you were wondering, I did buy a little succulant garden. It fits in the palm of my hand, and I was able to get it back home in one piece. *Fingers Crossed* they live! I will be so sad if they die on me. They are my little sliver of California sunshine and they make me so happy. :)

On our last day in California we went on a whale watching adventure! It was so cool! We got to see a California Grey Whale! He was huge!

After our whale adventure, we went to dinner on this great restaurant on the beach and I was finally able to see the sunset on the West Coast. And it was every bit of miraculous as I thought it would be. God is so good.

What is your favorite place in the world? Do you have a Charity Churchmouse story?
