Oh What Fun | St. Augustine Family Photographer

This year I was able to participate in a national Santographer gift exchange! Laura Winslow, a photographer I follow, does this event every year. You sign up and get someones name and someone else get your name. It is a great way to network with other photographers. It would be awesome to do this locally for photographers in the St. Augustine/Jacksonville area. This year I am playing Santa for Courtney of Small Beginnings Photography and Birth Services. Her work is incredible! She is a doula AND a photographer! How awesome is that!? She is super talented and her work is something for me to aspire to. My only regret is that she doesn't live close to me so she could do our birth photography when Rich and I have a child. I just went and picked up her gifts! I can't give away the details in case she is reading this. :) The lovely lady who has my name is Crystal of Aniron Photography, another stellar photographer. It has been so great to connect with these ladies and get to know them better.

So I started thinking about gifts and Christmas and decided to put together a list of things that any photographer you know would love to have. Here's what I came up with.

1. Epiphanie Bags!

I cannot say enough good things about my Epiphanie bag. I love how colorful and stylish it is. When I got my 5D Mark II I wanted something that would keep my gear safe and secure. There is never a doubt in my mind that my gear is safe. There is a decent amount of padding but it isn't too bulky. I also didn't want a camera bag that looked like a camera bag. (Hello thieves!) I have already requested another Epiphanie bag for Christmas!

2. Upgrade Me

You will be hard pressed to find a photographer who doesn't want the newest model of their camera. I have been pining for the 5D Mark III since it came out! It is just so bright and shiny and new and would make a lovely new addition to my Epiphanie bag!

3. Shutter Buddies

Shutter Buddies are great tools for family photographers or child photographers. It can be really hard to grab and keep the attention of kids 2 and under. Shutter Buddies provide a great way to attract, and keep, a child's attention long enough to get the perfect shot.

4. Photojojo!

Pretty much anything from Photojojo is golden. They have such a great selection of gits geared towards photographers. Last year Rich got me the lens mugs they sell! So fun! I also have the lens shot glasses! This year I'm thinking the Cookie Cutter set looks pretty neat as well as the Flash Bender and Diffuser.

5. Lenses, Duh!

This year I'm hoping to expand my lens collection. I would love a 70-200mm 2.8 L. I affectionately call it "The White Whale." I also would like to check out the 85mm just to see how different it is from my 50mm.

6. PPA Membership

Becoming a member of the Professional Photographers of America was one of the best decisions I've ever made for my business. It started off as a decision based solely on insurance purposes but has become one of the greatest things ever. They have such a great online presence and have stellar customer service! The PPA make you feel like you are a member of a family rather than a number in a company. Plus they organize the Imaging USA conference every year! (I'm going for the first time this year!) When you become a member, your first year at IUSA is COMPLETELY FREE! Serioulsly people, The PPA is one pretty amazeballs organization and I am proud to be a member. They offer free online classes on everything ranging from posing to business strategies as well as SEO. Speaking of SEO...

7. A subscription to WooRank

For those of you with a friend or family member wanting to kick their business into high gear, this is for you! WooRank gives you an analysis of your website and ways you can improve your rankings in the Google listings. Rich stumbled on this site and it has been an invaluable tool for Danielle Brooks Photography. It certainly is not for the faint of heart. In order to tap into all the potential you need to make time to watch the videos and actually implement the suggestions they make. You will not see overnight results, but if you put forth the effort, you will see your rank slowly move up.

These are just a couple of suggestions for the photographer in your life. What is at the top of your Christmas list this year?
