Year In Review | St. Augustine Photographer

Happy 2014 everyone! I am so glad it is a new year, aren't you? This past year went by in such a whirl. We have honestly run the gamut of life together. We have had a lot of ups and a lot of downs. But it has been amazing to see God's hand in all of it.

This was our first year together being married! Last New Years we celebrated at Universal Studios. After that we unfortunately said good bye to Rich's Grandmother. Within less than 2 months we also said good bye to our beloved cat, Scout. After our losses, the year took an upward turn. We were able to celebrate our 1st year anniversary on my dream trip to Los Angeles. For those of you who know me really well, you know how big of a deal this was!

On our way back from L.A. we adopted the new love of our lives, Ava! We did some research and found out that Russian Blues are hypoallergenic. Which works out awesome for us! Since I LOVE cats and cant really live without one in my life, and Rich is allergic. We found one in an animal shelter in Starke. Fun fact: Starke, FL is where Florida State Prison is located. That's where they keep inmates on death row. In hindsight, that kind of defined our trip to get our little cat out of animal prison.

The rest of the year kind of lumped together. We worked, I had my busy season for family photos, and Rich's company hit several exciting milestones. This year we were with my parents for Christmas, and boy was that a blessing in disguise. Our year started off with loss and it ended with loss. On Christmas Eve my Dad's mom passed away. It was fortunate that we were already in town and could be around to help out with things before the funeral.

Looking back on the year it seems that 2013 was marked with a bunch of loss. However, we are so blessed with the knowledge we will see our loved ones again. It's easy to look at the deaths of loved ones and get upset or frustrated with God for taking them from us, but the reality is we are not promised tomorrow. And our grandparents are far better off now than they were. I am just blessed that I was able to live this year with Rich by my side.

So here's to 2014, the year we are sarcastically saying will "Be the year without death". Stay tuned, tomorrow's blog will talk about New Years Resolutions both for Rich and I personally as well as some BIG goals for Danielle Brooks Photography!
